Delusional Parasitosis : Series Of 25 Cases

A series 25 cases of delusional parasitosis is being reported. There were three cases below 45 years, 12 cases between 46-45 years and 11 cases above 55 years of age, 64% cases were females. A majority of cases (92%) had insidious onset. The duration of symptoms in all the cases (except one) was 6 months or more. 13 cases presented with infestation with insects over body and 10 cases with insects crawling over scalp. There were three cases each with diabetes mellitus and leprosy. Three cased had dementia, 2 cases had depression and one case presented with trichotillomania. Pimozide was used in22 cases, amitriptyline in 2 cases and fluoxetine in one. 14 cases (52%) showed complete remission while receiving drug, 8 cases showed partial improvement and 3 cases did not respond.

Multiple Dermal Cylindroma

A Cute Renal Failure Due To Monthly Administration Of Rifampicin In A Leprosy Patient

Complications due to rifampicin administration have been well documented, especially for the treatment of tuberculosis. Multidrug therapy for the leprosy patients advocates rifampicin of monthly interval and at the level of intermittent administration, complications are rarely noted. An adult male of tuberculoid leprosy developed acute renal failure at the time of second and third monthly doses of rifampicin therapy.

Painful Glomangioma On Sole

A child of 8 years developed multiple painful conglomerated mass on sole. Excision was done and there was no recurrence after 6 months of excision. Diagnosis was made on histopathological examination. Multiple glomus tumour is a rare condition and is therefore reported.

HIV Infection In The Patients Of Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Four sixty-three males with sexually transmitted disease from January 1993 to June 1995 were screened for HIV infection to find out the magnitude of HIV infection in a high risk group. Majority (85%) were in age group of 21-35 years. 374 (80.7%) men were married. 463 males gave history of heterosexual exposures with prostitutes (90.8%), amatures (6.4%) and marital (2.8%). None had used condoms. Out of 463 STDs, 45(9.7%) cases had syphilis, 133 (28.7%) chancroid, 45 (9.7%) LGV, Gonorrhoea 26 (5.6%), NSU 39 (8.4%) and others 175 (37.7%). Blood samples of 463 males suffering from STDs were tested for HIV 1-2 antibodies by ELISA technique followed by confirmation by western blot assay. 7 cases of STDs were positive for HIV 1-2 antibodies by ELISA test and 6 were confirmed by Western blot assay. A Prevalence of 1.29% of HIV 1-2 antibodies in STD Patients were found. This study highlights the importance of screening STD patents for HIV infections.
