Topical corticosteroids are the backbone of treatment of different dermatological disorders. Over the past seven decades, we are blessed with topical steroids. If used judiciously, these can be a magic molecule in dermatological problems, but this “judicious use” is lacking somewhere in present days. In this background, the current edition of “A Treatise on Topical Corticosteroid in Dermatology ” is an excellent reference book on use, misuse, and abuse of topical corticosteroids.

The content of this book is so compact that it appears to be a must read book for the practicing dermatologists, teachers, postgraduate students, researchers, and others related to branches of medicine. Formatting and illustrations of this book are so nice that this book will be suitable among all sections of readers.

The book is divided into 36 chapters and contains 333 pages. Each chapter has an abstract, keywords, learning points, main text, and conclusion (in some of the chapters). All the 51 contributors, both national and international, had done a wonderful job to make these chapters relevant to the present perspective and reader friendly. Due to their mammoth effort, this book has become an asset particularly to the topic both nationally and internationally. They needed to be congratulated for that. Barring few omissions, this book is going to be a treasure and asset for dermatologists, medical library, or for personal possession.

Evolution of topical steroid, indications, use of topical steroid in some special situations such as pregnancy, lactation, pediatric age group, and side effects of topical corticosteroids are elaborated vividly. Furthermore, the editor included some chapters which are of social importance such as topical steroid addiction, topical steroid phobia, topical steroid damaged face (TSDF), and management of TSDF. The topics are selected considering their relevance in the present era, significance, and public health importance. There is excellent epidemiological touch on scenario of topical steroid abuse in different geographical locations such as India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Middle East, South East Asia, Japan, Africa, and Australia, which is quite unique for this book. The editor must be congratulated for collecting these epidemiological statuses from different parts of the world. Moreover, regulatory aspects of topical steroid, pharmacovigilance, and how to combat with the abuse in community level are mentioned in separate chapters which make this book an exceptional one.

This book is printed on glossy paper with plenty of illustrations, tables, and a number of good quality photographs to draw the attention of the readers. Exhaustive bibliography, in this book, will be a great help for the teachers, postgraduate trainees, and researchers for further reading.

We would like to see the scenario of topical steroid abuse in western world and effect of topical steroid in different systemic disorders (such as renal failure, hepatic failure, etc.) in the next edition.

At the end, the editor, Dr. Lahiri must be congratulated for his strenuous, sincere, honest, and herculean effort to maintain the quality and standard of this book.

To conclude, this book will be an important addendum to the field of topical corticosteroids not only for the dermatologists but also to the whole medical fraternity.
