<description><![CDATA[<b>Debabrata Bandyaopadhyay, Satyendra Nath Chowdhury, Aloke Kr Roy</b><br><br>Indian Journal of Dermatology 1999 44(2):55-57<br><br>A study of 75 cases of exfoliative dermatitis showed a male preponderance (M:F=4.77:1) with highest frequency of occurrence in the fifth and sixth decades. Cutaneous ailments were responsible for 64&#x0025; of cases, among which psoriasis was the commonest disease followed by various types of eczema. The syndrome was caused by drugs in 12&#x0025; of the cases and malignancy in 2.67&#x0025;. In 21.33&#x0025; of patients the cause remained undetermined. The systemic changes and the laboratory findings are described.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<b>Sandipan Dhar, Subrata Malakar</b><br><br>Indian Journal of Dermatology 1999 44(2):58-60<br><br>In this prospective study, sixty patients, 28 male and 32 female aged 7 to 48 (mean 12.5) years, were divided into 3 equal groups. Patients in gr 1 applied 5&#x0025; doxepin hydrochloride cream over the eczematous lesions twice daily for 2 weeks. Group II patients were treated with clobetasol propionate (0.05&#x0025;) cream twice daily for 2 weeks. In gr III, the patients received topical clobetasol propionate twice daily for the first week and doxepin hydrochloride cream twice daily for the 2nd week. The improvement was measured by &#x00E2;&#x20AC;˜subjective sympom&#x00E2;&#x20AC;&#8482; (SS) and &#x00E2;&#x20AC;˜objective sing&#x00E2;&#x20AC;&#8482; (OS) scoring systems. Improvement in SS was maximum in gr III moderate in gr I and mild in gr II. Improvement in OS was maximum in gr III followed by gr II and gr I. Lichenified lesions showed no improvement. Somnolence and stinging at the local site were the adverse effects complained by 8(40&#x0025;) and 3(15&#x0025;) patients in gr I respectively, 2(10&#x0025;) patients had both in gr III.]]></description>

Among them, 25 cases of lepromatous, 4 of borderline and 21 tuberculoid patients showed corneal hypoaesthesia. Upper temporal corneal area was most frequently affected. Stress is laid on health education and timely intervention.]]></description>

Although the probability of such occurrence is high in endemic areas, the rare incidence may be due to acquired host defense, a subject of much speculation. Two such rare cases are presented and some reports of cross infections of the disease are reviewed.]]></description>

The trunk was spared. Some of the lesions showed features of spontaneous regression. Investigations confirmed the diagnosis of juvenile xanthogranuloma. Lesions regressed satisfactorily with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy.]]></description>
